Yesterday, I could post about how the Fayette County Public Schools (in Lexington) put up framed copies of the back of a one-dollar bill. It says the phrase on the currency… but the law didn’t require the wording to be front and center, or in large font, or much of anything else. I said it was a brilliant way to subvert the system while still following the letter of the law.
Now American Atheists wants to help other schools in Kentucky do the same thing.
When Brittany Pike saw the back of a dollar bill framed at Lexington’s Athens Chilesburg Elementary School last week, she couldn’t have been more pleased.
Pike told the Herald-Leader that her husband is the state director at the group American Atheists, and has been working behind the scenes to address the new “In God We Trust” law.
Public school students in South Dakota will notice something different on their first day back to school — the national motto, "In God We Trust," prominently inscribed on walls in stencil or paint. A new state law that took effect this month requires the message to be displayed in an area where students are "most likely" to see it, such as a cafeteria or entryway.
North Carolinians can now get a standard license plate for their cars or trucks that bears the phrase “In God We Trust.” The state Division of Motor Vehicles on Monday began offering a third standard plate that includes the national and state mottos instead of “First in Flight” or “First in Freedom.”
